Getting into a wrong cab in Nigeria could lead to kidnapping, which could cost one’s family a huge sum of money as ransom.

Most unregistered cabs are used for kidnapping and other criminal acts. Ritualists also use unregistered taxi to perpetrate their evil plans. Taking road-side cabs these days is very risky, while cabs at garages require caution.

In other to avoid being kidnapped, many people now enlist the services of trusted taxi drivers. But of what use is your cab man in a gridlock in ever traffic-congested city like Lagos, when you need him?

llegal cabs, sometimes known as pirate taxi or gypsy cabs, are not duly licensed or permitted by the jurisdiction in which they operate.

They do not have specific route, a reason it is difficult to track them down after they might have perpetrated evil acts.

No doubt, many unlicensed cabs are in operation, especially in cities, which restrict number of legal cabs.

While these unregistered of cabs help to ease transportation, the dangers may outweigh their advantages. It is therefore important government takes drastic step to stop the menace. Government must ensure that all taxis to be used for commercial purpose are registered and their operations properly regulated.
