The Mslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has, on behalf of all Muslims in the South West, congratulated all the newly elected political leaders in the region on their victory at the last governorship and state assembly elections.

The organisation, in a statement by its Executive Secretary, Professor Dawud Noibi, expressed pleasure that the new leaders secured the trust and mandate of the people to provide good governance in their respective states.

It particularly congratulated Mr Seyi Makinde, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Prince Dapo Abiodun, the governors-elect of Oyo, Lagos and Ogun states, respectively, as well as their deputies, Mr Rauf Olaniyan, Dr Hamzat Kadri and Mrs Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

“It is our fervent prayer that Allah grants the new political leaders uncommon wisdom, courage, heartfelt compassion and, above all, a deep sense of accountability to Allah with which to lead their respective states and the region to greater heights in the next four years. May Allah in His infinite mercy aid them to carry out the task of their new offices creditably to His pleasure and to the benefit of the people,” MUSWEN said.

In the same vein, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) congratulated the incoming governors in the South West.

In a congratulatory message by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the organisation charged the governors-elect to work towards raising the standard of living in the region.

MURIC also called on the governors-elect to run truly participatory administrations by appointing both Christians and Muslims into their cabinets.

“We congratulate the new governors-elect in Yorubaland. We call on them to make the people’s welfare the focus of their administration. We charge Christian governors to respect the dignity of their Muslim subjects and accord them the right to their Muslim identity without let or hinderance.

“In return, we appeal to the teeming Muslim population in the sub-region, the Imams and Islamic scholars to cooperate with the governors and to be law-abiding,” the organisation said.

Meanwhile, MUSWEN, which is the umbrella body of all Muslim organisations in the South West, has reiterated the commitment of the Muslim community in the South West region to peace and peaceful coexistence among all the peoples of Nigeria.

It said: “Guided by pristine Islamic values, we stand for the good of all Nigerians, irrespective of their religious, ethnic and/or cultural differences. We pray for continued peace and progress in the region and the nation.”
