Ondo Senator-elect eulogises late Oba Olateru-Olagbegi

MR Nicholas Tofowomo, the Ondo South Senator-elect has lamented the death of Oba Folagbade Olateru-Olagbegi, the Olowo of Owo, Ondo State.

The Senator-elect, in a condolence statement by his Media Aide, Mr Olumide Akinrinlola on Thursday in Okitipupa said the monarch would be greatly missed not only by the Yoruba race but also the country at large.

He also commiserated with the people and family of Olagbegi Royal family, the Olowo-in-Council, the Owo indigenes and the entire Ondo State over the demise of the Oba.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Ondo State government on April 18 announced the demise of the first class monarch aged 77.

Tofowomo also commiserated with the Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, saying that the foremost monarch died at a time his fatherly advice on religion, economy and politics would be needed most.

He added that the traditional ruler was well respected for his contributions to the peace and unity of the Owo Kingdom, Ondo state and the entire Yoruba race.

Tofowomo who prayed for the repose of his soul urged the Olagbegi royal family, the Olowo-in-Council and the entire state to emulate the exemplary, goodwill and dignity of the late monarch.

“I wish to commiserate with the Olagbegi royal family, the Olowo-in-Council, all Owo indigenes, Gov. Akeredolu and entire Ondo State on the demise of Oba Olateru-Olagbegi.

‘The foremost monarch died at a time when his economic, religious and political advice will be needed greatly.

“His contribution to the unity and peaceful co-existence of the Owo Kingdom and the Yoruba race will not only be missed by the South-west alone but also the entire country.

“I pray for the repose of his soul as he joins his ancestors and urges all indigenes to emulate his goodwill and dignity,” he said.

NAN reports that the late Olateru-Olagbegi who reigned for 19 years, was given the staff of office on Dec. 11, 2003, by the late Gov. Olusegun Agagu.

Until his death, he was the Chancellor, University of Jos and former Chairman, Ondo State Council of Obas.
