The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and Nile University, Abuja have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the training of medical students and healthcare development.

The MoU was signed when the Chairman of the Governing Council of the university, Prof. Huseyin Sert, paid a courtesy visit on the FCTA management on Friday in Abuja.

Sert was hosted by the Secretary of the FCT Health and Human Services Secretariat, Malam Adamu Bappah.

The don, who led a delegation of the university’s management, said that the institution was seeking support to carry out its set goal in healthcare development in the FCT.

He stated that the university would deploy students to hospitals in the FCT for internship by the end of July this year.
“We are seeking the approval of the FCT Administration to use facilities at Asokoro hospital and Wuse General Hospital,’’ said Sert.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Osman Aras, said that education and human capital were key to the development of the healthcare sector.

He expressed the determination of the university to partner with key institutions in the FCT to foster development.

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences of the university, Prof. Dili Dogo, said the institution decided to start with Asokoro and Wuse Hospitals, noting that the institution would also use its health facilities.

He said the management of the university required the approval of the FCTA to commence the design and building of its health facilities.

Dogo appealed to the FCTA management for urgent approval, to pave the way for the implementation of the MoU.

“We appeal for an extension of our partnership from six to 10 years.

“This will ensure a hitch-free implementation of the MoU, which will help in getting accreditation for our medical courses,’’ he said.

Responding, Bappah said that the FCTA management would study the request made by the university with a view to fostering growth in the FCT.
