Makinde reverses Ajimobi’s appointment of 15 permanent secretaries in Oyo

It’s back to status quo for 15 recently appointed permanent secretaries in the Oyo State civil service as Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered them to revert to their previous positions.

The concerned permanent secretaries were 11 sworn in by former Governor Abiola Ajimobi on May 19, and four others appointed on May 23, 2019.

State Head of Service, Mrs Ololade Agboola, communicated Makinde’s directive in a meeting held with the affected permanent secretaries in a meeting held in her office on Friday morning.

Agboola had said the reversal was to afford the Makinde administration the opportunity to review the processes that threw up the permanent secretaries.

One of the permanent secretaries who spoke with Nigerian Tribune said, “It was formally communicated to us by the Head of Service at a meeting held today (Friday) at 9:00 am. The 15 of us recently appointed are affected. He said everyone should revert to their previous status in the meantime that he would want to review the process that threw us up.”

Commenting on the decision, spokesperson of the Seyi Makinde campaign organization, Mr Dotun Oyelade said the development was in line with the governor’s resolve to review all transactions, appointments, contracts, promotions carried out by the former Ajimobi led government between March 11 and May 28.

He added that the Makinde government was compelled to review the policies and actions carried out by the Ajimobi government at its twilight to be sure that they were not borne out of malice or in creating impediments for the smooth running of the current government.

“Governor Makinde will be very consistent and finicky with all his campaign promises and this is not an exception.

“The governor said that all transactions either contractually or in terms of appointments and promotions that were done especially between Monday, March 11 and May 28 would be given closer scrutiny particularly because of the obvious mischief that has been introduced into the whole governance within this period.

“So, it’s true that during the campaign period, the governor promised that the people of the state would not have him in the governor’s office to embark on distractive traditional probe but the brazen attitude that bothers on attempt to block the success of the current administration has made the governor to decide the latest course of action which is to reverse many of the policies and actions of the Ajimobi administration at the eve of his exit because they were borne out of malice.

“So, just like he made good the promise to cancel the N3,000 paid by parents on their public secondary school children and open the Governor’s Office flyover for every citizen of Oyo State, in the same manner, he is dealing with the issue of the appointment of the permanent secretaries and civil servants,” Oyelade said.
