#EndXenophobia: Tight security as youths protest at Shoprite, MTN outlets in Ibadan

Security operatives on Tuesday stormed Shoprite and MTN outlets in Ibadan to disperse youths who had thronged the outlets located at Dugbe, Ring road and Mobil to protest the killing of Nigerians in South Africa.

When Tribune Online visited Heritage Mall located at Dugbe on Tuesday evening, the mall was under lock and key, leaving prospective customers stranded.

Scores of security operatives were seen patrolling the area as at the time of filing this report.

Our correspondents also gathered that owners of nearby shops were advised to close their shops in order not to fall victims of violent reprisals by the protesters.

The Palms Mall at Ring Road was locked down when Tribune Online visited on Tuesday evening.

Eyewitnesses told Tribune Online that youths had stormed the mall to protest earlier in the afternoon.

Gunshots were also heard in the vicinity in the evening.

Tribune Online also gathered that there was mild protest at the MTN office located at Mobil area of Ibadan.

Some of the property at the outlet including glass, chairs, tents were broken by the protesters.

However, the timely intervention of security operatives prevented further destruction of MTN property.

The security team was led by DPO Oluyole Division of the Nigeria Police, Femi Okunowo.
