Bauchi distributes 3,085 knapsack sprayers to youths

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has distributed 3,085 of Knapsack Sprayers to Youths across the 323 wards of the state in a move to reduce unemployment and boost food production in the state.
While distributing the item at a ceremony held at BSADP headquarters, Bauchi the Governor reaffirmed the determination of his administration to tackle the factors responsible for food insecurity, unemployment and poverty through rapid agricultural transformation.
The Governor said that the move was part of measures to revive agriculture in the state in addition to ensuring that farmers are provided with all the necessary support for boosting of the sector.
He said that the distribution of the sprayers would enable the beneficiaries to provide a professional agrochemical application to farmers, as according to him, engaging unemployed school leavers in the agricultural sector would reduce youth restiveness and poverty.
Bala Mohammed who pointed out that the state has suffered from slow growth and limited economic activities despite its abundant agricultural and human resources, expressed concern that the state’s agricultural landscape is not associated with technology-driven innovation or high productivity.
According to him, the strategic focus of the present administration in the state is to restructure the agricultural sector in the area of policy formulation, reorganization of administrative framework and funding for the betterment of the citizens of the state particularly the farmers.
The Governor reassured of government’s commitment to a systemic shift from subsistence farming to modern-commercial agriculture through crop intensification diversification, technological advancement, value additional and critical infrastructure development.
He further noted that the thrust of the policy is a private sector participation, working in partnership with the federal government and local governments active engagements with development partners locally and internationally as well as empowering relevant agencies in the state to provide the needed inputs.
Some of the beneficiaries commended the move by the government saying that it will improve agriculture and boost food production in the state considering that the state is an agrarian on.
They further called on the government to make other things needed for boosting agriculture readily available to the teeming farming population in the state.
