The Senator representing Kaduna Central in the Red Chamber, Senator Shehu Sani, has given a recipe to end the protracted executive/legislature rift in the country.

Senator Sani, who made the proposal in a Facebook post he released on Sunday, gave a seven point recipe, which he said the two arms of government must actualise to end the perennial disagreement.

In a post he titled, “Immediate recipe for peace between the Presidency and the Parliament,” said that the presidency must cease the relentless attacks on members of the parliament which he said has been coming in form of intimidation and use of state apparatus.

According to him, the presidency must prevail on its appointees to respect summons of the National Assembly.

He said: “The Presidency must end the systematic demonisation of the leadership and members of the parliament;

“End the use of state apparatus to hunt, frame, intimidate and persecute legislators; end political trials, compel President’s appointees to honour and respect summons and accord the Senate President and the Speaker House of Representatives their due respect.”

He also stated what the parliament should do to ensure cordial relationship with the executive.

He listed some of the steps needed to be taken by the National Assembly to facilitate peace as including hastening up the pace of passage of up the passage of executive bills, confirmation of the President’s nominees and the need to “accord him more respect.”

He said: “The Parliament should confirm pending President’s nominees, liquidate the thought and proposals for impeachment, speed up the passage of executive bills and accord the President the respect he deserves as our Leader.”

He also stated that the Presidency must halt the sponsorship of protests against the National Assembly.

He stated further: “Last note; the Presidency should end the sponsorship of synthetic protests and the Parliament should ceasefire on the launching of verbal cruise missiles to the villa.”

The Senate had practically downed tools following the breakdown of relationship between the parliament and the lawmakers.

The Senate had rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) twice but the President kept him on the position in acting capacity.

A resolution seeking the replacement of Magu was spurned by the President, leading to the passage of a further resolution suspending the confirmation of nominees of the President.

Ever since that resolution was passed, only offices directly mentioned in the Constitution were considered.

The Senate only suspended the resolution once to consider appontees to the Central Bank of Nigeria following the failure of the Monetary Committee of the apex bank to form a quorum, when a number of the members had completed their tenures.
