AnambraThe Anambra State Commissioner For Women, Children and Social Welfare, Lady Ndidi Mezuo, says Governor Willie Obiano will continue to partner groups, organisations and individuals that will help to improve the lives of the poor and vulnerable in the state.
The Commissioner stated this during the training of the Cash Transfer Facilitators (CTF) and Desk Officers of the Conditional Cash Transfer Unit, Anambra State on the dynamics of the new re-enrollment exercise held in Awka.
Flagging off the exercise, Lady Mezuo said that the state government is passionate and committed to the welfare and well-being of the poor, downtrodden and vulnerable in the state which made him to continually pay the state’s counterpart fund to the Federal Government for Ndi Anambra to benefit in the exercise.
The Commissioner revealed that the increase in the number of beneficiaries of the scheme in the state lies on the strategic steps the Obiano administration has taken so far and appealed to the cash transfer facilitators to always ensure that the money gets to the real people it was meant for and assured them that the present administration is working out modalities to assist them as a way of motivating them to do more for the state.
According to the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, National Cash Transfer Office, Abuja Mrs Marbel Onyekachi the re-enrollment exercise among other things will help to correct errors of inclusion for payments to households who are relatively better off than those who are the poorest and most vulnerable in the community and noted that they are now applying Proxy Means Test (PMT) in their enrollment scheme to identify the poorest and most vulnerable households on their social register.
The Head of the Anambra State Cash Transfer Unit Mr Ralph Enukorah told the ABS that the training of the cash transfer facilitators was to acquaint them with the new mode of payment to the beneficiaries as the World Bank was not satisfied with the payment of cash directly to the beneficiaries, hence the introduction of the electronic payment and revealed that Anambra West, Ayamelum, Orumba South, Awka North, Ihiala and Dunukofiah local government areas will be their pilot council areas for the exercise.
Three thousand one hundred and twenty-two Ndi Anambra have benefited in the previous enrollment of the exercise while another seven thousand, six hundred and fifty-six people have been captured in the re-enrollment scheme of the exercise.
