BayelsaTHE Bayelsa State Primary Health Care Board (BPHCB) says it has commenced the registration of pregnant women across the eight Local Government Areas of the state to enable the government to fulfil its commitment to pay every pregnant woman N3,000 monthly allowance.

Speaking during the commissioning of the BPHCB office in Yenagoa, chairman of the board, Mrs Victoria Denenu, said the registration exercise is part of government’s effort to ensure safe delivery and zero level infant and maternal death rate in the state.

“Since its establishment in the state, the board has had two visits from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency and our score care has gone up from five per cent to 45 per cent.

“The board has also carried out sensitization campaigns, to enlighten pregnant women on the need to go for antenatal and stick to their routine drugs.

“And to ensure sustainability of this feat, the board has set up a department of planning, research, monitoring and evaluation, department of disease control and immunization, department of essential drug and logistics, et al.” She added.
