THE Ogun Central senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Honourable Titi Oseni-Gomez, has urged prospective voters in the district to reject all forms of inducement from opposition candidates ahead of the Saturday National Assembly election.

Oseni-Gomez also encouraged them to trooped out in their numbers and vote according to their conscience, despite planned harassment and intimidation.

She stated this while addressing journalists on Wednesday, at the state party secretariat, Agbeloba, Abeokuta, that there were plans to instil fear in the minds of the people to prevent them from participating in the exercise.

The first female Speaker of the State House of Assembly said her party had been inundated with various anti-democratic methods being planned to manipulate the process of the election.

She said those behind the plans were members of an opposition party who harassed and attack people during a major event in the state on Monday.

“As the election approaches, we have heard and seen some trends from the opposition parties which suggest that this election could be subjected to a number of antidemocratic tendencies – for which we cry out now!

“Just two days ago, we witnessed with a rude shock, the brazen harassment, intimidation and physical attacks of members of a political party – masterminded and executed by a leader of the same political family; right in the presence of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; among other national dignitaries. This, to us, is a red flag!

“We have also been inundated with the subtle plan by the same perpetrators to repeat the thuggery and anarchy on Saturday in order to prevent their impending loss.

“I want to use this medium to state emphatically that we shall not allow them to export their internal brigandage to the main election which we shall be participating in. The plan to instil fear in our people and prevent them from coming out to vote have been uncovered.

“I implore the good people of Ogun central senatorial district to resist the planned intimidation. They should be strong and troop out to vote according to their conscience on Saturday. They should not be intimidated or fear anyone. More importantly, my people should reject their temporary inducement of money and other materials; and vote for a more enduring legacy. They must reject self-preservation at the expense of the destiny of Ogun central people,” she added.

She implored the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the conduct of a free, fair and credible election and also the newly posted State Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju to protect every voter during the election.

Oseni-Gomez said her party had traversed all the six local governments that constitute the senatorial district and had seen the neglect and pains of the people.

She promised quality representation if elected into office in the election, saying her party is close to victory.

The former lawmaker said, “We are close to victory. Ogun central people will not again be under the bondage of an overlord for the next four years. They have run Ogun state underground in the last eight years and now want to perpetuate themselves. We say no and the people also say no!”
